Trump Says He is Not Done with Putin
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump revealed he feels "disappointed but not done" with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, according to an early Tuesday report by BBC.
In an exclusive phone interview with the BBC, Trump expressed his dissatisfaction, stating, "I'm disappointed in him, but I'm not done with him. But I'm disappointed in him," when questioned about whether he had given up on Putin.
When further asked about his level of trust in Putin, Trump responded, "I trust almost no one."
This conversation followed Trump's announcement on Monday of a firmer policy toward Russia concerning its conflict in Ukraine.
He pledged to supply Kyiv with new missiles and sophisticated weaponry while imposing a 50-day ultimatum for Moscow to agree to a ceasefire, warning that failure to do so would result in "very severe" secondary tariffs.
According to the BBC report, Trump mentioned that he believed a deal with Russia was possible on four separate occasions.
The president emphasized that the US is actively "working" to bring an end to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
He recounted, "We'll have a great conversation. I'll say: 'That's good, I'll think we're close to getting it done,' and then he'll knock down a building in Kyiv," as relayed by the report.
When questioned if he still considers NATO "obsolete," Trump clarified, "No. I think NATO is now becoming the opposite of that," noting that the alliance members were now "paying their own bills."
