Yulia Svyrydenko Becomes Ukraine’s New Premier

(MENAFN) Ukraine’s legislative body approved on Thursday the appointment of Yulia Svyrydenko as the nation’s incoming prime minister.

As detailed by Ukrainian parliamentarian Oleksii Honcharenko on Telegram, members of the Verkhovna Rada endorsed Svyrydenko’s candidacy with 262 affirmative votes.

Svyrydenko, who is presently fulfilling duties as first deputy prime minister and minister of economy, has now been officially elevated to the premiership.

Earlier in the week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made public his decision to nominate Svyrydenko for the role, marking the initiation of a sweeping governmental reorganization while the conflict with Russia enters its fourth year.

Following the parliamentary decision, Svyrydenko has become only the second woman in Ukraine’s history to occupy the prime ministerial office.

The first was Yulia Tymoshenko, who briefly held the position in 2005 and then served again from December 2007 to March 2010.
