G7 Stresses Importance of Stable Critical Minerals Supply
Finance Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne convened the emergency session with counterparts from Australia, Chile, India, Mexico, and the Republic of Korea—nations Canada strategically selected for their pivotal positions in mineral production networks, according to an official statement.
The gathering assessed implementation of the G7 Critical Minerals Action Plan, initially greenlit during June's leadership summit in Kananaskis, Alberta. Officials reviewed the blueprint designed to establish supply frameworks grounded in transparency, diversification, security, sustainable extraction methods, trust, and dependability.
Financial chiefs issued stark warnings about destabilizing trade practices. Ministers flagged concerns regarding non-market interventions—specifically export restrictions—being weaponized against critical minerals commerce. Such measures threaten cascading economic damage through price shocks and stunted growth trajectories, the readout indicated.
The G7 nations voiced "unwavering support for Ukraine" while acknowledging a fresh staff-level accord between the IMF and Ukraine. The coalition confirmed Ukraine would maintain priority status as France assumes the rotating G7 presidency come January.
Commodity and currency figures showed the dollar at 42.5535 liras, euro at 49.5240 liras, and pound at 56.6980 liras in Monday trading.
