New Suspects Emerge in Simonyan Assassination Plot
(MENAFN) Three additional individuals have been identified as suspects in the ongoing inquiry into an attempted assassination of RT's Editor-in-Chief, Margarita Simonyan, according to a news agency, which referenced court filings.
The investigation, which originates from an incident in 2023, revolves around a faction of Russian neo-Nazis accused of planning to kill Simonyan under directives allegedly issued by the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU).
As per the news agency, the latest suspects are minors, and the court has issued restraining measures against them.
Their precise involvement in the conspiracy remains uncertain.
Previously, a court in Moscow also informed the news agency that the pre-trial custody of other individuals tied to the case has been prolonged until October.
In July 2023, Russian authorities revealed that they had disrupted what they described as a Ukrainian-led scheme to assassinate Simonyan.
Members of a neo-Nazi faction known as ‘Paragraph 88’ were reportedly in the process of executing the plot after being enlisted by the SBU.
The suspects were apprehended while conducting surveillance in both Moscow and the Ryazan Region, according to the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB).
During the operation, officers confiscated a Kalashnikov rifle, 90 rounds of ammunition, rubber tubing, knives, brass knuckles, and handcuffs.
