Putin Blames Western Dominance
He asserted that ideological differences serve merely as a pretext for the West to push forward its geopolitical agenda.
Putin also expressed that he initially believed the dissolution of the USSR would ease tensions between Russia and Western nations.
“I also thought that key disagreements [between us] were ideological in nature,” he remarked. “Yet, when the Soviet Union was gone… the dismissive approach to Russia’s strategic interests persisted.”
The president further noted that his efforts to communicate Russia’s concerns to Western leaders were futile.
“The West decided… they do not need to follow the rules when it comes to Russia, which does not have the same power as the USSR.”
Putin highlighted that all of Moscow’s proposals aimed at ensuring mutual security, enhancing international stability, and reaching agreements on offensive arms and missile defense were turned down.
“It was not just negligence. It was based on a clear desire to reach some geopolitical goals.”
He concluded that the “one-sided game” in relations with the West has now come to an end, signaling a shift in the dynamic between Russia and Western powers.
