Additional Russian POWs in Ukraine brought back home

(MENAFN) Russia and Ukraine carried out another prisoner-of-war exchange on Friday, according to a statement from the Russian Defense Ministry. This swap follows a similar exchange the previous day.

While the ministry did not disclose how many soldiers were returned on either side, it released footage showing more than a dozen Russian service members boarding a bus. The ministry noted that both exchanges were part of an agreement reached during recent talks between Moscow and Kiev in Istanbul.

As with previous swaps, the Russian soldiers were first transported to Belarus, where they received psychological and medical assistance before being sent back to Russia for further rehabilitation.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky also confirmed the exchange but did not share any specific figures.

Alongside these exchanges, the two countries have been repatriating the remains of fallen soldiers. Since the June 2 negotiations, Russia has returned the remains of over 6,000 Ukrainian troops, while it has received the remains of 57 Russian soldiers in return.
