Russia’s Investigative Committee concludes its probe into terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall
The attack occurred on March 22, 2024, when four gunmen stormed the concert venue, opening fire and setting the building on fire. The assault left 149 people dead, over 600 injured, and one person still missing.
All four alleged attackers — Dalerdhzon Mirzoyev, Saidokrami Rachabalizoda, Shamsiddin Fariduni, and Muhammadsobir Faizov — are Tajik nationals and were captured while attempting to flee to Ukraine by car. In total, 19 ethnic Tajiks have been charged in connection with the attack.
While the ISIS-K terrorist group (Islamic State’s Khorasan Province) claimed responsibility, Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously hinted at a possible Ukrainian link, despite Kiev’s denials.
Sledkom spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko stated that the attack was “planned and executed in the interest of Ukraine’s leadership” with the aim of creating political instability within Russia. She confirmed that the suspects are connected to ISIS-K and that some had received training abroad. They were allegedly also preparing an attack on a venue in Kaspiysk, Dagestan.
Russia has faced a resurgence in Islamist terrorism recently, including a June 2024 attack in Derbent, Dagestan, where synagogues and churches were targeted, resulting in 27 deaths.
