Trump declines cover-up claims in Jeffrey Epstein case

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has denied accusations of a cover-up surrounding the Jeffrey Epstein case, defending how his administration handled the release of documents related to the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender’s death in jail.

Several of Trump’s allies, including journalist Tucker Carlson and former adviser Steve Bannon, have criticized the Department of Justice and FBI reports, which concluded there was no evidence of a list of powerful individuals to whom Epstein trafficked underage girls. The reports also reaffirmed that Epstein’s 2019 death in a Manhattan jail was ruled a suicide, with no signs of foul play.

Posting on Truth Social on Saturday, Trump claimed the so-called “Epstein Files” were fabricated by leading Democrats such as former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. He compared them to the “fake” Steele Dossier used against him.

“They created the Epstein Files just like they created the FAKE Hillary Clinton/Christopher Steele Dossier that they used on me, and now my so-called ‘friends’ are playing right into their hands,” Trump wrote. He further questioned why Democrats hadn’t released any damaging information from the files if such evidence existed, suggesting it would have been used to harm the MAGA movement.

Trump also voiced support for Attorney General Pam Bondi, urging her to continue her work and calling on federal agencies to focus on alleged Democratic scandals, corruption, and the 2020 election, which he still claims was rigged in Joe Biden’s favor. “LET PAM BONDI DO HER JOB – SHE’S GREAT!” he wrote, adding that the Epstein case serves as a distraction from more serious issues like the deadly floods in Texas.

FBI Director Kash Patel dismissed the cover-up theories, stating on X that “the conspiracy theories just aren’t true, never have been.”

Speculation has continued due to a reported minute-long gap in surveillance footage outside Epstein’s cell on the night of his death, though Bondi has insisted there is nothing suspicious about the missing footage.

Reports suggest the controversy has caused internal tensions, with several media outlets claiming FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino is considering resignation over the matter.
