N. Korea supplies arms to Russia
(MENAFN) According to South Korean military intelligence, North Korea has steadily provided Russia with more than 12 million rounds of 152 mm artillery shells to support Moscow’s military operations in Ukraine, as stated in a report shared with opposition lawmakers.
The Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) estimated that about 28,000 containers loaded with weapons and artillery ammunition have been sent by Pyongyang. “If calculated with 152 mm single shells, (the number of supplied shells) are presumed to have reached more than 12 million,” the DIA said.
In addition, South Korean intelligence indicated that North Korea might dispatch additional troops to Russia within the coming two months.
This military aid follows a strategic partnership agreement signed in June 2024 between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Subsequently, North Korea deployed thousands of soldiers to assist Russia in the Ukraine conflict.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu revealed that 6,000 North Korean personnel, including 1,000 combat engineers and 5,000 military builders, will support operations in the Kursk region near Ukraine, focusing on mine clearance and reconstruction.
Earlier this year, South Korean intelligence reported that North Korean forces suffered significant losses fighting alongside Russian troops, estimating around 4,700 casualties with 600 deaths confirmed.
