N. Korea Denounces U.S.-Japan-South Korea Military Exercise
(MENAFN) The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) sharply criticized a recent joint military exercise conducted by the United States, Japan, and South Korea, labeling the trilateral operation as a primary factor escalating military tensions on and around the Korean Peninsula.
On Friday, the three countries carried out a provocative tripartite aerial drill involving multiple combat bombers, including the strategic B-52H bomber, flying over the Korean Peninsula and surrounding areas, according to a report by a news outlet. The news outlet quoted the head of the Policy Office at the DPRK’s Ministry of National Defence in its statement.
The longstanding military partnerships between the U.S. and Japan, as well as the U.S. and South Korea, have evolved into a nuclear-armed triangular alliance, the statement emphasized. This expanding trilateral military collaboration across multiple domains signals that the chronic instability and tension on the peninsula risk spiraling into an unforeseen military confrontation at any time.
The DPRK affirmed that it retains the sovereign right to respond with countermeasures against provocative military acts, especially those efforts aimed at reinforcing multilateral military alliances that threaten regional security.
