Media reports Trump possibly to send long-range missiles to Ukraine
Trump had previously mentioned the possibility of sending Patriot systems to Ukraine but did not clarify whether he meant the missiles alone or the full air defense platforms. He has openly criticized Moscow for refusing to agree to an unconditional ceasefire, while Russia views such proposals as delaying tactics aimed at helping Ukraine regroup.
The US president has also hinted at further military aid to Ukraine, referring to “very sophisticated military equipment” and emphasized that the cost would be fully covered by other nations, particularly the European Union. Trump framed these arrangements as good business for the US.
During the most recent peace talks in Istanbul, Russia proposed a conditional ceasefire, contingent on Ukraine halting Western arms deliveries. Kiev rejected this offer and has shown little interest in resuming negotiations. Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Kislitsa recently stated that the current negotiation format is effectively exhausted unless Russian President Vladimir Putin gives his delegation authority to offer terms more acceptable to Ukraine.
Kislitsa said Kiev’s main aim in Istanbul was to push for a summit between Putin and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. However, Putin has said he would only meet Zelensky if Ukraine first accepted the basic terms of a potential peace deal. He also questioned Zelensky’s authority to sign any treaties, pointing out that his presidential term expired last year but he remains in office under martial law.
In a separate interview, Putin reiterated his view that the US and its allies have ignored Russia’s interests since the fall of the Soviet Union.
