Xi Highlights Deepening Ties with Russia
The discussions occurred in anticipation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Foreign Ministers’ Council session scheduled to be held in Tianjin.
Xi expressed high regard for the current state of Sino-Russian relations, affirming his dedication to broadening the nations’ comprehensive partnership and strategic collaboration.
He also warmly anticipated the forthcoming visit of President Vladimir Putin, referring to the bond with his Russian counterpart as a “long-standing and good friendship.”
During their talks, Xi and Lavrov explored a range of significant international and regional issues, though the Russian Foreign Ministry did not disclose detailed information.
Additionally, they reviewed bilateral political engagements, including the arrangements for Putin’s upcoming trip to China.
Putin is slated to participate in the SCO Heads of State Council meeting on September 1, the organization’s principal decision-making forum, and to take part in ceremonies on September 3 commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory over Japan in World War II.
