Zelensky is thankful for NATO-US agreement to deliver weapons
In separate discussions with US President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Zelenskyy highlighted the coordinated efforts to enhance Ukraine’s defense capabilities amid ongoing conflict.
Describing his talk with Trump as “very good,” Zelenskyy noted their focus on ending the violence and establishing lasting peace.
“President Trump shared details about his meeting with the NATO Secretary-General. It’s important that the Alliance countries are working to increase defense spending,” he said.
Zelenskyy emphasized that both sides discussed ways to strengthen protection against Russian attacks and agreed to coordinate future actions.
In his conversation with Rutte, Zelenskyy received updates on the Washington meeting with Trump and affirmed continued joint support for Ukraine.
“We appreciate the readiness to provide additional Patriots, and the US, Germany, and Norway are already working together on this,” Zelenskyy said, adding that further arms deliveries are anticipated to help “protect lives of our people and repel Russian assaults.”
He reiterated his stance that “Russia must be forced to stop the killings,” attributing the continuation of the war to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s desire to prolong it.
“Peace is only possible through strength,” Zelenskyy said.
He also called for efforts to cut off Russia’s war financing and sever its connections with Iran and North Korea.
Zelenskyy revealed that new joint agreements involving the US, Germany, and Norway regarding Patriot missile systems, as well as long-term defense partnerships with Washington, are in the works.
