Zelenskyy Holds Talks with U.S. Envoy in Kyiv
(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held high-level discussions on Monday with Keith Kellogg, the US special envoy for Ukraine, who touched down in Kyiv earlier that day for a diplomatic visit.
“We discussed the path to peace and what we can practically do together to bring it closer,” Zelenskyy stated on X, calling the meeting with Kellogg “productive.”
According to Zelenskyy, the talks centered on enhancing Ukraine’s air defense capabilities and expanding joint production initiatives. Key topics also included coordinated defense procurement efforts with European allies and enforcing sanctions against Russia and its partners.
“We hope for US leadership, as it is clear that Moscow will not stop unless its unreasonable ambitions are curbed through strength,” he added.
A video released alongside Zelenskyy's remarks showed the two leaders in discussion, during which Zelenskyy expressed appreciation to US President Donald Trump for “all messages and really strong decisions” regarding the resumption of American military aid to Ukraine.
Kellogg’s visit came shortly after Trump announced plans to supply Ukraine with an unspecified number of Patriot air defense missiles. Upon arrival in Kyiv, Kellogg was welcomed by Andriy Yermak, the head of Ukraine’s Presidential Office.
Trump, speaking the previous day at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, took aim at Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions.
“Putin really surprised a lot of people,” Trump told reporters. “He talks nice and then he bombs everybody in the evening, but there's a little bit of a problem there: I don't like it.”
