US Lawmakers Demand Probe into Palestinian American’s Death
They have called on the State Department to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Representative Rashida Tlaib voiced strong condemnation on X, stating, "An American was beaten to death by Israeli settlers backed by the military.
Instead of pursuing justice for Sayfollah, our government continues to send billions to prop up the apartheid system that killed him and kills Palestinians like him every day. Arms Embargo Now."
Musallet, a 20-year-old US national from Florida, lost his life last Friday after being severely beaten.
According to his relatives, a group of Israeli settlers encircled him and blocked emergency medical teams from providing assistance for approximately three hours. He passed away before medical personnel could transport him to a hospital.
Representative Jerry Nadler also expressed outrage, describing himself as "horrified by the brutal murder" of Musallet. He found the accounts of settlers obstructing ambulances and the apparent inaction of Israeli Defense Forces present at the scene to be "deeply disturbing."
Nadler highlighted the surge in violence across the West Bank, labeling it as having reached "epidemic levels."
The congressman, who had earlier introduced the West Bank Violence Prevention Act to address and deter violent incidents in the region, urged fellow lawmakers to support the measure.
"I call on my colleagues to join me and cosponsor HR 3045 in the wake of this terrible tragedy, in hopes that one day such violence will cease, and Israelis and Palestinians can live together in peace, security, and stability through a negotiated and viable two-state solution," he said.
