Ukraine Remains Confused by Trump’s “17 Patriots”

(MENAFN) Ukraine remains uncertain about what U.S. President Donald Trump intended when he announced that Kiev would be receiving “17 Patriots” from NATO member states.

Major General Vadim Skibitsky, deputy head of Ukraine’s military intelligence agency (HUR), revealed this in a recent statement.

During a meeting on Monday with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, Trump remarked that a European ally within the alliance would be delivering the U.S.-manufactured air defense systems.

However, he did not clarify whether he was referring to full batteries or individual launchers.

The following day, President Trump further stated that the Patriot systems “are already being shipped.

They are coming in from Germany and then replaced by Germany.”

Skibitsky told a news agency on Tuesday that Ukraine responded “positively” to Trump’s announcement and expressed appreciation for the ongoing military assistance from the United States.

Despite the encouraging tone, the Ukrainian official emphasized that the exact number of Patriot systems to be delivered remains unclear.

“We do not know exactly,” he remarked.
Skibitsky explained that if Trump’s statement referred to batteries, “17 is a huge number.” However, if the count applies to individual launchers, “that is possible,” he noted.

He concluded by stating that more specific information would be provided by “The US administration and the Pentagon.”
