US Envoy Urges Support of Gaza Humanitarian Foundation
"Unfortunately, today we have heard many Council members and aid agencies continue to defend a failed system rather than support the GHF as it delivers life-saving assistance to those in need," said Dorothy Shea, the US Charge d'Affaires ad interim, during a Security Council discussion on the Middle East situation.
She continued, "We would urge member states and the UN to support the GHF and stop echoing incorrect information that benefits Hamas and undermines the secure delivery of aid to civilians in Gaza."
Emphasizing that no one desires to see Palestinian civilians in Gaza suffer from hunger or thirst, Shea confirmed the United States’ commitment to providing aid to those trapped in the heavily restricted area.
She further pointed out that a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip could have been achieved if the Palestinian group Hamas had agreed to the current proposal.
"The responsibility for the situation in Gaza lies solely with Hamas," she added.
The GHF, supported by both the US and Israel, began its aid distribution in the Gaza Strip on May 27. Despite its mission, critics have labeled the aid distribution sites as "death traps."
