US Senators Criticize Israel's Actions in Gaza
(MENAFN) Democratic US senators are increasingly vocal about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the rising settler violence in the West Bank, according to local media reports on Wednesday.
"I think it's way overdue to have Democratic members of Congress speak up and speak out about the humanitarian disaster in Gaza," said Senator Chris Van Hollen from Maryland, speaking to an online outlet.
Van Hollen expressed his satisfaction at the growing number of Democrats who are publicly opposing the actions of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
He emphasized the repeated lack of accountability, stating, "We've seen a pattern of impunity from the Netanyahu government – no accountability for these killings – and we've seen a pattern of indifference from the U.S. government." Van Hollen concluded, "I'm glad more people seem to be paying attention."
Senator Timothy Michael Kaine from Virginia also voiced concerns during an interview with the outlet, remarking, "There are times when, to me, it doesn't look like (Netanyahu) is prioritizing the hostage situation."
Kaine's comment reflects growing skepticism surrounding Netanyahu’s handling of the conflict, with many accusing the Israeli leader of prolonging the war for his own political advantage.
Kaine further remarked, "Certainly, there's times when it looks like (Palestinian group) Hamas does not want a deal," highlighting the complexities and challenges surrounding peace efforts in the region.
