Russia blocks large number of Ukrainian drones
By 6:30 a.m. Monday, at least 13 drones had been shot down on their approach to Moscow, according to the city's mayor, Sergey Sobyanin. He noted that emergency crews were responding to crash sites where drone fragments had landed.
In one case, debris from a downed drone struck the roof of a high-rise building in the New Moscow district, causing a small fire. No injuries were reported, according to Sobyanin.
Further south in Belgorod Region, which shares a border with Ukraine, drone strikes injured two people—one involving a civilian vehicle and the other a private residence, according to local authorities.
The southern Rostov Region was also targeted. The regional governor reported drone interceptions in the towns of Shakhty, Novoshakhtinsk, and Novocherkassk. While no casualties were reported, one drone damaged the “old control room” at a railway station in a mining settlement near Shakhty. In a nearby village, drone debris hit a house, an outdoor kitchen, and two vehicles.
Reports indicate that Kiev has sharply increased its use of drones for deep strikes into Russian territory over the past week. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, 43 drones were intercepted between 8:00 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Sunday across the Bryansk, Oryol, Kaluga, Belgorod, and Moscow regions.
Russian officials have condemned these cross-border drone strikes as “terrorist attacks,” asserting that they frequently target civilian areas and infrastructure. In response, the Russian military launched a series of strikes last week on Ukrainian industrial facilities tied to drone and missile production.
