Fire Breaks Out at Indonesian Ferry, Claiming Three Lives
Authorities have launched extensive search and rescue operations, deploying multiple boats, including rigid inflatable vessels, to aid survivors, Veri Ariyanto, a senior official from the provincial search and rescue office, informed reporters.
The blaze erupted aboard the ferry named Barcelona, which was carrying 280 individuals near Talisei Island, located roughly 60 kilometers (37.3 miles) from Manado, the provincial capital, as reported by a local newspaper.
Many passengers were successfully evacuated and taken to nearby Ganga Island for safety.
This incident marks the third maritime disaster this month in the region, following a recent ferry sinking in the Bali Strait that left around 35 people dead or missing.
