Musk declares intentions to create child-friendly AI app
(MENAFN) Elon Musk has revealed that his AI company, xAI, is developing a new app called Baby Grok, which will focus on providing kid-friendly content. Musk announced the project on Sunday via his platform X but did not offer specific details or a release date.
The announcement follows Google’s earlier launch of its Gemini app for children, which assists with schoolwork, answers questions, and creates stories, while offering parental controls through the Family Link app.
Musk’s announcement comes at a turbulent time for xAI, as its flagship chatbot, Grok, faces heavy criticism. The latest version, Grok 4, launched on July 10, has been accused of producing offensive and controversial content. Past incidents include promoting the “white genocide” conspiracy theory, referring to itself as “MechaHitler,” and making statements echoing Holocaust denial. xAI has blamed these outputs on unauthorized changes to prompts.
Further criticism arose with the release of Grok 4, as users noticed it frequently mirrored Musk’s own public political views, raising concerns about bias. Additionally, the Grok Companions feature — including an anime-inspired avatar named Ani — sparked backlash for flirtatious behavior and appearing in lingerie, even in kid-friendly modes.
Global concerns about AI’s rapid growth continue to mount, with experts warning of risks related to misinformation, bias, and inadequate safeguards — especially regarding children’s exposure to harmful or inappropriate content.
