Tucker Carlson claims Putin did better job than any German president

(MENAFN) US journalist Tucker Carlson told Germany’s Bild newspaper that Germans should direct their anger at their own leaders rather than at Russian President Vladimir Putin, blaming Berlin’s policies for the country’s decline.

In a two-hour interview published Saturday, much of the conversation focused on Carlson’s February 2024 interview with Putin. During the discussion, Carlson dismissed Bild deputy editor-in-chief Paul Ronzheimer’s attempts to label the Russian leader a “criminal.”

“I’m not defending Putin, but he’s done a much better job for Russia than any German leader has done for Germany,” Carlson said. “Your country is going down, Russia is going up. Be angry at your own leaders, not at Putin.”

Carlson specifically criticized former Chancellor Angela Merkel, calling her more deserving of the term “criminal” because “she destroyed your country through mass migration. Germany won’t recover from it in our lifetimes.”

He argued that Berlin’s hostility toward Putin is simply a tactic to distract Germans from their domestic crises, such as economic struggles and immigration issues. Germany is projected to finish 2025 in its third consecutive year of recession.

“Your country is a mess because your leaders are incompetent,” Carlson stated. “Instead of admitting it, they redirect your anger toward Putin. That’s the strategy.”

Earlier this month, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned that Germany is becoming “dangerous again” for Russia after German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said German soldiers must be prepared to fight Russians if necessary.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also warned that Germany, through its support for Ukraine, is repeating historical mistakes that have previously led to its own downfall, referencing Germany’s defeats in both World Wars.
