Serbia warns of incoming soaring heatwave
The Republic Hydrometeorological Service of Serbia reported that the heatwave will continue through Saturday, July 26. The prolonged dry conditions and drought have heightened the risk of fires, especially in hilly and mountainous areas where strong southwesterly winds could further worsen the situation.
To keep residents informed, authorities plan to send SMS alerts to those living in the most vulnerable southern and eastern districts, including Toplica, Jablanica, Pcinja, Pirot, Nisava, and Zajecar.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of the Interior has reminded the public to follow fire safety rules, emphasizing that open burning of vegetation, waste, or crop residues is forbidden and subject to fines.
