Many Russians Buy Labubus in 2025

(MENAFN) Russians have collectively spent over 1.5 billion rubles (equivalent to $17.6 million) on Labubu figurines this year, according to statistics from the online marketplace Wildberries & Russ, as reported by a news agency.

The Labubu character, imagined by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung for his publication ‘The Monsters’, is a tiny, elf-resembling creature with pointed teeth. It turned into a sought-after collectible globally when the Chinese firm Pop Mart introduced it in a "blind box" style back in 2019.

Its fame skyrocketed in 2024 after Lisa, a K-pop icon of Thai origin, shared pictures of the figures on Instagram. This moment ignited a surge in celebrity promotion.

Later, pop star Rihanna was spotted with one attached to her Louis Vuitton handbag, reality TV personality Kim Kardashian revealed a personal stash of ten figurines, and retired English footballer David Beckham uploaded an image of a Labubu gifted to him by his daughter, further solidifying the figure’s worldwide appeal.

Though items featuring Labubu debuted on Wildberries in July 2024, the company revealed that sales stayed minimal until May of this year.

During that month, interest spiked by an astonishing 4,700% in comparison to April, translating into revenue worth tens of millions of rubles.

“The popularity of the toys continued to grow in June: Labubu sales set a new record – compared to May, turnover increased by another 1,190% and almost reached 1 billion rubles ($11.1 million). As of today, total sales of Labubu products on Wildberries (since January 1) have amounted to 1.582 billion rubles ($17.6 million). On average, every tenth Russian has bought Labubu on Wildberries,” the company shared with the news agency on Sunday.
