Cholera Cases, Deaths Surge in Sudan

(MENAFN) Sudan’s Health Ministry revealed on Tuesday that 1,210 new cholera infections, including 36 fatalities, were recorded over the past week.

According to the ministry’s statement, these new figures raise the total cholera cases since the outbreak began in August 2024 to 102,831, with the death toll now at 2,561.

The ministry noted fluctuations in infection rates, stating infections "decreased in some states and increased in others," but did not specify which regions were affected.

On August 6, the World Health Organization confirmed cholera cases across all 18 Sudanese states, underscoring the widespread nature of the outbreak.

This ongoing health crisis unfolds amid a brutal civil war between Sudan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces, a conflict raging since April 2023 that has claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced millions.
