Tokyo Stocks Close Mixed on Wednesday

(MENAFN) Tokyo’s stock market ended Wednesday with a mixed performance as investors took a cautious wait-and-see approach ahead of the highly anticipated earnings report from U.S. semiconductor giant Nvidia Corp.

Japan’s benchmark Nikkei Stock Average gained 125.87 points, or 0.30%, closing at 42,520.27. In contrast, the broader Topix index edged down by 2.25 points, or 0.07%, finishing at 3,069.74.

Market activity remained subdued as many investors held back, wary of potential volatility triggered by Nvidia’s upcoming earnings release. The report is expected to set the tone for U.S. markets and could influence global investor sentiment.

However, analysts pointed to a notable uplift in market mood driven by a sharp rise in a major pharmaceutical stock, which soared following strong drug trial results. This rally helped offset some of the cautious trading, providing a boost to overall sentiment on the Tokyo exchange.
