China Urges US to Abandon "Talks and Threats" Tactics
A representative from China’s Commerce Ministry issued these remarks in response to American accusations that China had delayed a scheduled phone conversation regarding recent rare earth export regulations, as reported by a state-owned news agency.
"The US side cannot seek talks on one hand while threatening to introduce new restrictive measures on the other. This is not the right way to get along with China," stated the spokesperson.
The official highlighted that China had already informed the US beforehand through the bilateral export control dialogue channel, and that both parties conducted working-level discussions as recently as Monday.
The ministry reiterated Beijing’s readiness to engage in talks, while expecting Washington to adopt a fair and constructive stance in managing trade disputes.
Last Friday, US President Donald Trump pledged to enforce new tariffs of 100% on Chinese products and limit the export of "critical software" starting November 1, following China’s announcement of export controls on rare earth minerals.
On Monday, Lin Jian, spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry, rebuffed Trump’s threats of 100% tariffs on Chinese imports, emphasizing that such actions were “not the right way” to handle bilateral relations.
