Airbus Nears Completion of Modifications on Recalled A320 Fleet
In its statement, the company emphasized, "Out of a total number of around 6,000 aircraft potentially impacted, the vast majority have now received the necessary modifications."
Airbus added that it continues collaborating closely with airline operators to finalize the adjustments on the remaining aircraft so they can safely resume operations.
The manufacturer also issued an apology for the delays experienced by carriers and their customers, acknowledging that the software malfunction—affecting over half of the narrow-body fleet—forced airlines to ground planes during one of the year’s peak travel periods.
The issue gained urgency last week when Airbus mandated an immediate precautionary software upgrade for all A320-series jets after discovering that intense solar radiation had the potential to corrupt data vital to flight-control systems.
The company confirmed that a substantial number of active A320 Family aircraft might be vulnerable to the problem.
In parallel, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) released an Emergency Airworthiness Directive (EAD) for the A320 range.
As stated in its notice, "This may unfortunately cause disruption to flight schedules and inconvenience to passengers. As is always the case in aviation, safety is paramount."
