Putin’s aide says discussions between Putin, Witkoff are constructive
“No compromises have been found as of yet,” Ushakov said following the meeting, adding that a direct meeting between Putin and President Trump is not currently planned.
“We discussed the substance, not specific wording and solutions. The parties see enormous potential for cooperation,” he noted. Ushakov also indicated that “some American proposals are acceptable to Russia, while others are not,” and confirmed that territorial issues were part of the discussion.
When asked whether the talks had moved peace efforts closer or further away, he replied, “Definitely not further.” Reports indicate the US delegation presented four additional documents outlining possible resolutions to the conflict in Ukraine.
Dmitriev described the session as “productive” via social media, while Witkoff immediately proceeded to the US embassy compound afterward.
Prior to meeting Witkoff, Putin dismissed input from Kiev’s European supporters, criticizing them for failing to recognize reality and accusing them of attempting to disrupt the US-led peace process. He also warned that Russia could block Ukraine’s maritime access if drone attacks on vessels carrying Russian oil from third countries persist.
