Denmark begins deploying army equipment, troops to Greenland
An advance command has been sent to prepare logistics and infrastructure for larger Danish and allied forces expected to arrive later. Their role includes ensuring facilities and supply lines are ready to support the main contingent. Reinforcements are expected to involve Danish Army units aimed at strengthening the country’s military presence on the island.
Much of Denmark’s remaining combat capacity is currently committed to NATO operations in the Baltic states. Greenland, a self-governing territory of Denmark, has consistently rejected proposals to sell the territory, reaffirming Danish sovereignty.
Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen confirmed plans for a stronger, permanent military footprint, including participation by other NATO countries in exercises and training activities.
The move comes after US President Donald Trump insisted that the US must “acquire” Greenland to prevent Russian or Chinese influence, framing the island as vital for US economic and strategic security.
