US Embassy Urges Citizens to Leave Iran
"Leave Iran now," the embassy declared in a security alert, urging US citizens to arrange their departure without expecting assistance from the US government.
The advisory further cautioned: "If you cannot leave, find a secure location within your residence or another safe building." It also advised Americans to anticipate ongoing internet disruptions, prepare alternative communication methods, and, "if safe to do so, consider departing Iran by land to Armenia or Türkiye."
The embassy stressed that US-Iranian dual nationals must exit using Iranian passports, noting that Tehran does not recognize dual nationality and treats dual citizens solely as Iranian.
"Showing a U.S. passport or demonstrating connections to the United States can be reason enough for Iranian authorities to detain someone," the alert added.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump announced on Monday a 25% tariff on "any and all" countries conducting business with Iran, as the Iranian government intensifies its crackdown on anti-government protests.
Although Trump has repeatedly threatened military action should Iranian authorities employ lethal force against demonstrators, he has also signaled openness to exploring diplomatic engagement with Tehran.
