Somali military kills members of al-Shabaab terrorists in Somalia

(MENAFN) The Somali National Army (SNA) killed 17 al-Shabaab militants during an air operation in southern Somalia, the Defense Ministry announced on Tuesday. The strike targeted a site in the Jabad Godone area of the Middle Shabelle region, where the al-Qaeda-linked group had been planning attacks and producing explosives.

The ministry said the operation, conducted with international support, also destroyed weapons and vehicles used by the militants in their activities.

Al-Shabaab has waged an insurgency against the Somali government for over 16 years, frequently targeting security forces, government officials, and civilians.

Since late 2024, the Somali National Army, along with regional forces in Puntland, has intensified air raids against al-Shabaab in southern and central provinces and ISIS (Daesh) in the northeastern Bari region, with backing from international security partners.
