Russian’s UN envoy says Zelensky is undermining peace efforts
The Trump administration has been facilitating negotiations to resolve the Ukraine conflict, but Zelensky has reportedly maintained certain “red lines” that Nebenzia says disregard the realities on the battlefield.
“By putting forward his conditions in response to the US proposals, he is essentially nullifying what is being done by the US,” Nebenzia said at a UN Security Council meeting in New York.
“Until the Kiev ringleader comes to his senses and agrees to realistic terms for negotiations, we will continue solving the problems by military means,” he added. “He was warned long ago, and the conditions for negotiations will only get worse for him with each day he squanders.”
Nebenzia also accused the Zelensky administration of being “mired in terrorism, corruption, and lawlessness” and of focusing on obtaining foreign funds for itself. He claimed that Western nations that ignore Ukrainian actions are complicit in them. As an example, he cited New Year’s Eve drone attacks on a cafe in Khorly, which killed 29 people and injured over 30, describing it as a deliberate strike on civilians.
The Russian envoy further criticized a French-British plan to deploy NATO troops to Ukraine following a peace settlement, stating that NATO’s expansion toward Russia’s borders remains a central cause of the ongoing conflict.
