Truck plows into pro-monarch protesters in Los Angeles, injuring two

(MENAFN) Reports indicate that a protest in Los Angeles turned violent on Sunday when a moving truck drove into a crowd gathered in support of Iran’s former monarchy. At least two individuals sustained injuries and were treated at the scene by paramedics.

The rally began around 2 p.m. outside the Wilshire Federal Building in the Westwood district, where demonstrators had assembled to show solidarity with ongoing unrest inside Iran.

Video circulating online captured a U-Haul truck pushing into the crowd. The vehicle displayed a torn banner reading: “No shah. No regime. USA: Don’t repeat 1953. No Mullah,” while protesters waved pre 1979 Iranian flags, symbols of the era before the revolution that ousted Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Other signs attached to the truck had been ripped away, and footage showed demonstrators smashing one of its windows.

The reference to 1953 points to the year when Prime Minister Mohammed Mosaddegh was removed in a coup backed by the United States.

Additional clips showed protesters striking the truck with flagpoles as police surrounded the driver’s door, eventually escorting him away. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether any arrests were made.

The incident unfolded against the backdrop of widespread demonstrations in Iran, which began on December 28 at Tehran’s Grand Bazaar amid economic turmoil and the steep decline of the rial. Since then, protests have spread to numerous cities across the country.
