Israeli Airstrikes Hit Deir Aames in Southern Lebanon Despite Ceasefire

(MENAFN) Israeli warplanes launched a series of air raids on Friday targeting the town of Deir Aames in southern Lebanon’s Tyre district, even though a ceasefire arrangement remains in place.

According to reports, Israeli aircraft carried out three successive strikes on Deir Aames. In addition, military activity in the area included a demolition operation, accompanied by a powerful blast that was reportedly heard across nearby regions. Artillery fire also struck the outskirts of Mansouri and Bayt Siyad in the Tyre area, while demolition work continued in Al-Bayyada.

“Urgent warning to residents of Lebanon in the town of Deir Aames: You must evacuate your homes immediately and move at least 1,000 meters away from the village,” army spokesman Avichay Adraee said earlier on the US social media company X.

At the same time, sirens were activated in northern Israeli settlements such as Zarit and Kiryat Shmona, according to military announcements. In a follow-up statement, the Israeli military said its air force had intercepted a drone before it crossed into Israeli airspace.

Separately, it was announced that a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon had been extended for an additional three weeks following diplomatic talks held at the White House. The US-brokered truce, initially lasting 10 days and implemented on April 16, had been scheduled to expire on Sunday.
