Maritime Traffic Near Strait of Hormuz Nearly Halted

(MENAFN) Commercial shipping activity in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz appeared to slow to a near halt on Friday morning over the past 24 hours, as tensions linked to a US blockade intensified. According to vessel-tracking information compiled by Anadolu, only six ships were observed in motion in either direction through the strategic waterway.

By 0900GMT, eastbound-to-westbound movement within the strait over the previous 24-hour period included the vessels Serrano, Niki, Marine Flux, and ASL Glory. Tracking data indicated that Serrano was en route with Bandar Abbas in Iran listed as its intended destination. Niki was also reported to be in transit at the time of observation.

Marine Flux was similarly shown as moving through the passage, transporting dirty petroleum products while heading toward Pipavav in India. ASL Glory, on the other hand, was recorded as stationary at anchor, with Shinas in Oman designated as its destination.

In the reverse direction, the ships Jin Zeng 5 and Kiyonami Maru appeared to have successfully navigated past the critical maritime chokepoint. Jin Zeng 5 was listed as anchored, with Port Rashid in the United Arab Emirates marked as its destination, while Kiyonami Maru was identified as being in transit toward the UAE.

At the same time, several additional vessels approaching the Strait of Hormuz displayed irregular interruptions in their AIS tracking signals near the narrow passage. However, it remained uncertain whether these gaps resulted from intentional signal deactivation or were caused by technical malfunctions.
