Iran Outlines Preconditions for Peace, Citing End of War, Sanctions Relief

(MENAFN) Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said Tuesday that any genuine peace agreement must include an end to the war, the removal of blockades, and the lifting of sanctions, while accusing the United States of favoring coercion over diplomacy.

In remarks shared on the social media platform X, Gharibabadi argued that “real peace” cannot be achieved through “humiliation, threats and forced concessions.”

“When a party directly involved in war, blockade, sanctions and threats of force rejects Iran’s response simply because it is not a surrender document, it becomes clear that the main issue is not peace, but imposing political will through pressure and threats,” he wrote.

According to Gharibabadi, Tehran has consistently outlined what he described as “clear principles,” including a permanent end to the conflict, guarantees against renewed fighting, compensation, the removal of blockades and what he called illegal sanctions, along with recognition of Iran’s rights.

“These are not maximalist demands; they are the minimum requirements for any serious, sustainable arrangement consistent with the UN Charter to end a crisis created through the unlawful use of force,” he added.

The deputy foreign minister also criticized Western governments over what he described as inconsistent and contradictory policies.
