Poll Finds Public Doubt Over White House Correspondents’ Dinner Shooting

(MENAFN) According to reports, a recent survey suggests that a significant share of Americans believe a shooting incident tied to the White House correspondents’ dinner was not real, highlighting growing skepticism around major news events.

The findings come from a poll conducted by a polling firm and released by a media research organization, based on responses collected from 1,000 American adults between April 28 and May 4. The results indicate that 24% of respondents believed the incident at the Washington Hilton was staged, while 45% said they believed it was real. A further 32% said they were unsure.

The incident has been the subject of official investigation. A federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., has indicted the alleged gunman, identified as Cole Tomas Allen, on four felony charges, including the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump.

Commenting on the poll results, Sofia Rubinson, an editor at a media research organization, said, “It’s very striking,” adding that the results point to increasing doubt among the public about institutions.

She also said, “Increasingly, people on all sides of the political spectrum are distrustful of both this administration and also the media,” noting that many individuals are increasingly willing to accept unverified claims circulating online.

In response to the conspiracy theories, the White House rejected the claims. “Anyone who thinks President Trump staged his own assassination attempts is a complete moron,” according to a spokesperson statement reported by media.
