Israeli Army Raids Syrian Homes in Fresh Sovereignty Breach

(MENAFN) Israeli troops carried out a new incursion into Quneitra in southwestern Syria on Monday, conducting search-and-raid operations across multiple residential properties in what marks the latest in a series of violations of Syrian sovereignty.

Media reported that soldiers moved into the village of al-Asha in the Quneitra countryside, sweeping through a number of homes. No immediate details emerged regarding arrests or casualties.

The raid arrives against a backdrop of stalled security negotiations between Damascus and Tel Aviv. Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa had previously indicated that talks aimed at reaching a security arrangement had not entirely collapsed but were running into serious obstacles, primarily over Israel's insistence on maintaining a permanent military foothold on Syrian soil.

The roots of the current tensions trace back to the fall of Bashar al-Assad's government in December 2024, after which Israel declared the 1974 Disengagement Agreement null and void and moved to occupy the buffer zone along the shared frontier.
